Low played in the top bit above the main part of the Academy on a small
stage in the corner of what is usually a bar area. Needless to say, I was
right at the front. They opened with Candy Girl and played another
stormer. I can't say it was a better or worse gig than the other two so
far - every time Low play, magic happens. That's the only way I can
describe it. The crowd was a bit muted at first, Zak remarking " Do you
people have any idea who we are? You've never heard of us have you?"
Someone shouted "Are you Piano Magic?", Alan fluffed the chords to La La
La Song and Mimi stopped the band to start In Metal again but the human
side just adds to things. It's just very natural somehow. The Lamb scared
me with it's sinister feel and it was great to hear Closer. Zak used the
keyboard for "Point Of Disgust" and as usual, there was some discussion
about what to do as an encore till Zak said "let's do that one about
water" and they pulled out a heart stopping Over The Ocean. Gorgeous!
